Founded to be different

Sigma Chi was created in 1855 at Miami University of Ohio. The six of the seven founders were members of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, but decided to break away from ΔΚΕ when they refused to elect a brother to a college position for which they felt he was unqualified. Unwilling to become tools for the political advancement of their brothers, the six founders along with a friend, William Lewis Lockwood decided to form a brotherhood based on improving oneself through association with diverse worldviews with personal standards and common ideals. The Core Witings of Sigma Chi reflect the beliefs of the seven founders.

Today, Sigma Chi has grown into an international organization of over 250 chapters and thousands of active and alumni members. The Sigma Chi Foundation offers leadership training, scholarships and professional contacts to all members. This past summer, Theta Nu members attended both the Balfour Leadership Training Workshop, which specializes in lessons for leadership within the fraternity, and the rugged, outdoor Horizons program in Snowbird, Utah.
