The Training Process
Sigma Alpha Iota does not refer to the period of time before member initiation as a "pledging period". Instead,
it is referred to as the "training period". There are several things that are required of prospective members
before they can initiate and experience the benefits of full membership. They are:
 |
To attend short (1-hour) weekly meetings, scheduled by the training
class itself. It is also strongly recommended that members-in-training attend any informal business meetings
held by the chapter (1 per month). |
 |
To learn a small amount of material about Sigma Alpha Iota, and be able to take the
National Test at a time to be decided by the training class. Current members help the members-in-training
to learn this material. |
 |
To complete a training class fundraiser. This can be as simple or as complex as your
training class likes. Your class will decide whether funds raised will go toward charity or the
payment of initiation expenses. |
 |
To participate in a musicale. Again, this can be as simple or as complex as your
training class likes. It can be open to all of campus, or just the chapter. Or, members-in-training
may participate in the regular Theta Eta semester concert if it is held before initiation. |
 |
While not a requirement, it is strongly recommended that members-in-training take
advantage of the "Interview Night" which is scheduled by the training class so that MIT's can meet
and get to know better the chapter members before they become full members themselves. |
 |
Payment of all fees (or finding a sponsor) is required before initiation. |
For more information about the training process, please contact the current Vice President for Membership,
