The first test this past week for Alma’s men’s basketball team was on January 28 against MIAA conference leader Hope. After trailing by twenty one at halftime, the Scots were able to slice into the deficit in the second half. However, the pure shooting of the Dutchmen enabled them to even-tually pull away, winning the game 86 - 59. Anthony Jones (07) led the way for Alma with 15 points in 30 minutes of play. Brian Hall (07) contributed ten points, while Eric Jones (04) and Mike Thompson (07) each had eight. Isaac Smith (07) crashed the boards with five re-bounds in 22 minutes of game time.

Next up for Alma was the Hornets of Kalamazoo College. This game was played Saturday in Kalamazoo. The Scots kept it close for much of the contest but again came up short, losing 69 - 60. Despite the loss, Alma was led by up and coming freshman Jones, who had a game and career high of 31 points. He also added 11 rebounds and two blocks in 39 minutes of playing time. Hall followed him with 12 points and grabbed five rebounds. Thompson had eight points.

The Scots will try to reverse their losing ways this upcoming week with two home games. On Wednesday, they play a non-league contest against Tri-State. Olivet comes to Alma for an MIAA contest on Saturday, February 7. Both games are scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
