Christian outraged by letter to the Editor
I, as a Christian, am outraged at the recent article insulting the chapel and its services. I hardly know where to begin. First, last I checked, God loves all whom He created. This includes (but is not limited to) the homosexuals, the bisexuals, the nonsexuals, the heterosexuals, the women, the children, the male and female ordained. And all of them born already tarnished with sin. Which, apparently, the author of the chapel editorial, was not. I also feel it is not the author’s place to be passing judgment on the chapel leader nor those who attend. Judgment is reserved for the Most High. The Bible does indeed specifically state in the Gospel of Luke that we are not to judge other lest we are judged by the same standards. Now unless the editorial’s author was born free of sin, I would say we all, author included, are going to be judged by the same standard: God’s. I do agree that scantly-clad, misguided children of God should be kept from parading their earthly wares in a holy place; how you entitle this holy place, though, is an issue. The chapel is merely a place to worship. Nowhere will you find it specific to any one religion. If any local Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, or Buddhist organization asked for and were granted use of the chapel they could use it for their worshiping and that would be that.
Being affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, our chaplain is logically a Christian. But the fact remains that he/she could very well be of any religion and could run the chapel according to his/her own agenda. Many people would most likely find this odd, but it is just as possible as having a Christian chaplain. The fact that the author of the editorial feels it necessary to spout all of his petty problems with the chapel in such a public (and cowardly) manner rather than take it up with Reverend Vogel makes me livid.
Now, I do not want to come off as saying the author is wrong in what he is saying. He is quite allowed to say whatever he chooses, but I, by no means, am going to agree with the majority of his statements. No, not at all. I think the fact that Christians are so debating Christianity is a horrible thing. This gives Christians a very bad name. I personally am quite supportive of women in leadership and I proudly claim homosexuals as my friends. As for someone else’s choices, they are their own. I can only hope that this is resolved without violence.
Sincerely,
DANNY BALGER (07)
