Freedom of speech before censorship

Mr. Thad Hopkins’ editorial ‘Chapel a cesspool of sin and blasphemy’ in the January 20th, 2004 edi-tion of The Almanian regarding the alleged “misuse” of the Alma College Chapel, as well as his religious disagreement concern-ing several members of the Alma College religious community, particularly Reverend Vogel, has created an unprecedented amount of controversy on campus.

Hopkins' letter in disagreement with Presbyterian doctrine

I am writing to let you know that while I agree with Mr. Hopkins about “half-naked girls running around the sanctuary” being a bit extreme, I do not share his opinion about the point that women should not be allowed to be ordained.

Tuomaala excels, is deserving of support

I was very happy last week when I noticed a reporter sitting in the back of our classroom at the start of our rehearsal. I thought that finally someone would show the campus how awesome Mr. Tuomaala was for the music program and how great rehearsals with him were. And then, I read the article your reporter wrote. I couldn’t have been unhappier with anything I’ve read in the Almanian this year.

Service fraternity sought to educate campus, not alienate Greeks

As a member of the Alpha Phi Omega chapter on campus, I would like to express my apologies and regret for any misunder-standing that arose from the sexual assault awareness video we helped sponsor through the assistance of the medshed.

Sexual assault more serious than acknowledged

The brothers of Alpha Phi Omega want to express our deepest thanks for express-ing your views about our most recent goodwill event. Our one wish is that the next time that you feel the need to express your opinion, you should perhaps get your facts right.
